Is Missing A Dose Of Multaq Pill For One Day A Cause For Concern?
Question: hi I am out of Multaq Tabs 400mg. Can i wait till tomorrow to get more? Would it be a problem if I waited till tomorrow for a refill, all the Pharmacies are closed today?

I understand your concern, and I would explain that there you are not at any risk if you miss these pills for one day.
You should know that after oral administration in fed conditions, peak plasma concentrations of dronedarone (Multaq) and the main circulating active metabolite (N-debutyl metabolite) are reached within 3 to 6 hours. After repeated administration of 400 mg twice daily, steady state is reached within 4 to 8 days of treatment.
The terminal elimination half-life of Multaq is around 25-30 hours and that of its N-debutyl metabolite around 20-25 hours. This is a long biodegradation time compared to most of the drugs.
This means that after one day of missing Multaq, your plasmatic levels of the drug decrease with 50%.
But it is needed up to 3 half lives (70 hours) for the drug to completely lose its effect.
So it can wait up to tomorrow for the next pill.
I recommend to find it as soon as possible, within tomorrow, to avoid possible further decrease of the drug and its main metabolite plasma levels, leading to a loss of the effect and probable exacerbation of atrial fibrillation.
