Question: I have a UT infection: pseudomonas aeruginosa, have been treated for 2 weeks with Cipro. I still have the infection, and my doctor at the Urogynegology clinic in another town has now prescribed Macrobid prior to a Durosphere(sp) injection next week. Can Macrobid be used for this type of infection? It is not e coli

Brief Answer: hi and welcome to hcm Detailed Answer: Thanks for the query. First, you should do antibiogram to verify resistance. But generally,if.cipro didnt work then i doubt that macrobid will. Macrobid is used for noncomplicated uti. Pseudomonad aur. Isnt common caused of uti and it should be treated with aminoglycoside or piperacilin if there is resistancy to cipro. If none of these works then 3.gen.cephlosporines or even i.v. antibiotics should be used. Wish you good health. regards
