Is Lump Inside Mouth With Swollen Lips A Sign Of STD Infection?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: I was recently tested for all STDs and came up clean. However after that in mid November I had unprotected oral sex. About a week before Christmas I developed a large lump on the inside of my mouth - in fact my lip became large and swollen. Saw my doctor - told him about the oral sex but he believed it was a cold sore. Gave me a treatment 4 tablets valacyclovir hcl - said it would take care of it. Well it didn't. Now the lump has flattened out but is still there. I have begun wonder if I have syphillus. Having minor same day surgery and as a preventive am on 875 amoxicillin for 14 days, twice a day. If I have syphillus would this take care of it? Do you think I might have an STD - my doctor didn't think it was but I still have the lump. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Brief Answer:
Need retesting of STD including syphilis

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I agree with your that you should be retested for STD. You can contract gonorrhea, Herpes or syphilis from oral sex. You were treated with both valacyclivir and then with amoxicillin but the doses would not treat syphilis.

If you are afraid to discuss this with your primary care physician or do not think they will take you seriously I would recommend that you contact the local health department and see if they can see you and give you the proper testing

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
