Is Losartin Safe To Take Inspite Of Taking Benicar Last Night?

Question: Hi, Doc, and good afternoon. My name is XXXXXXX I am a 62 year old female with hypertension. I went to a new cardiologist about 2 months ago and he changed my blood pressure medicine from Losartin 50 mg to Benicar 50 mg. per day. (I also take Atenolol 50 mg, Tricor 143 mg., and Zetia 10 mg.) My BP stayed high, so the new doc then changed me to Azor 10-40. Even though my BP dropped significantly, I started having terrible waves of depression, including suicidal thoughts. I went to a clinic that is open on the weekend and the doctor prescribed Buspar 10 mg. twice a day until I could get back to my regular doctor. The pharmacist said it was a mild stabilizer with very few side effects, but I didn't take it because I didn't want to start any new medicine again. When I went back to the cardiologist for follow up, I discussed this with him. We discussed just going back to the Benicar but he decided to change to Azor 5-20. It worked with no problem for a couple of days before I started having the waves of depression again. So I called back and the doctor told me to go back to the Benicar and Atenolol. However, I cannot seem to shake the depression. It is not as bad, but still kind of scary. I might add that I did not have any kind of depression whatsoever until this new doctor started changing my meds. My last dose of Benicar was last night around 7. Since it is the weekend and the doctor won't be back until Tuesday due to Monday being a holiday, I was thinking about just going back to my original Losartin and Atenolol. Is it safe to take the Losartin after taking the Benicar last night? My blood pressure was 144/96 this morning when I checked. I honestly feel so much better when my blood pressure is a little higher like it used to be (ranged anywhere from 140-150/90-94). The lower blood pressure and depression is much harder for me to deal with than the slightly elevated pressure with no depression. My neighbor was going through the same thing and consulted a kidney specialist who ran several tests and got his meds right. I am thinking about trying to get an appointment with him also. Any advice? Any thoughts on the Buspar? I am a school teacher and about to be out for the summer, so I know my blood pressure is about to get a little better. It is always better in XXXXXXX July and August! :)

Brief Answer:
Can take Losartan tonight until doctor appointment

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear XXXXXXX

Let me explain a few things:
- Losartan is a drug appertaining to the angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug-class

- Benicar is the brand name for the generic Olmesartan which is also of angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug-class

- Atenolol is regulating your heart rates; appertains to the beta-blocker drug class

- Azor is the trade name for the combination therapy : Amlodipin (calci-blocker) and Olmesartan

- Buspar is the trade name for Buspirone, an anti-anxiety agent

So, if you took last night Olmesartan (Benicar), you can safely take Losartan this night. Olmesartan and Losartan appertain to the same drug class, so, their effect is the same.

I usually ask my patients to have regular control of their kidney, liver, pancreas function. In this way, the function of these organs will be assessed properly and proper treatment would be prescribed if any problem is noticed.

With regards to Buspar, it can be used on short-term basis after evaluating your health condition and probable progress. So, it is better to get further evaluated by neurologist to evaluate the outcomes of using Buspar until know and decide if its use will be beneficial on the following days.
