Is Light Therapy Effective For Treatment Of Psoriasis?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Jul 2014
Question: Hi there, I suffer from psoriasis on about ten patches on my back legs, buttocks, ears and chest. I've used daivobet but it doesn't really work anymore. My dermatologist suggested light therapy. It sounds like a bit of a hassle and I'm worried it might increase my risk for skin cancer. Is it worth trying?

Brief Answer:
Light Therapy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.Delighted to be able to help.
Light therapy is an effective treatment for psoriasis.
Can be applied ultraviolet light B (UVB) and ultraviolet light A(UVA)
During treatment with UVB, skin redness and itching are the most common side effects.
The most common side effects with UVA are nausea, itching and skin redness.
Application of UVB and UVA is not related to increased risk of skin cancer because the light is applied gradually and under medical supervision , you should not worry.
I recommend you the light therapy to treat your psoriasis.
