Is Itching Around Groin Area A Sign Of STD?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Jul 2015
Question: I am a 33 year old married woman. I have only had sex with my husband for the last 8 years...until 3 weeks ago when I had a one night stand with a married male friend. We had unprotected vaginal sex. My husband and i had not had sex for the past 9 months. I don't seem to have any symptoms of std but my anxiety is too much for me to handle. The man I had sex with is also sleeping with another woman besides his wife. The other woman has only been with this man and her husband in the past 20 years. This weekend my husband finally wanted to have sex with me and even though I tried my hardest not to, he would not take no for an answer. Now, a day after intercourse with my husband, my labia minora is very itchy. What are the odds that the itching is from an std or just from the sex with my husband. I wasn't very lubricated as I was nervous about infecting my husband with something. Hydrocortizone cream has taken the itchiness away.

Brief Answer:
itching is a nonspecific symptom; dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Itching is a very nonspecific symptom and can occur after sexual intercourse, in STDs, in genital uncleanliness too. Also, it has subsided with cream application. So do not worry.
If such a patient came to me, I would have suggested stoppage of steroid cream application as a prolonged use can have side effects. I would also suggest hsving protected sex with multiple partners, thus the exposure becomes safe. Also I would suggest to look for features like genital pain, discharge, lesions or rashes and burning urination. In presence of these, a doctor should be consulted and a swab for culture should be done to rule out STDs. Otherwise, there should not be any worry.
You have mentioned that you are visiting doctors clinic tomorrow. So get a clinical examination done for further management.

Hope this was useful.
Regards.

I went and got tested today. The results won't be back until the end of next week. My anxiety is so bad that I've lost 15 pounds over the past 2.5 weeks. This wait is going to be tough!
Anyway, the doc told me that my cervix looks good and that she doesn't expect to find anything. Should this ease my worries? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
I understand the cause of your anxiety. But it wont help you in any possible way in this matter. Just dont worry. An assurance from a doctor should calm you down. And you have already been assured.
If you still find yourself anxious, take lorazepam or alprazolam tablet at night after prescription by your family doctor or treating doctor.

All the best.
Regards.
