Question: Hello: I have been experiencing serious localized back pain in my upper back since performing exercises done with a personal trainer 2 weeks ago. The pain cause me to seek care in and urgent care center where the doctor gave me 20 tablets of Cyclobenzaprene (aka Flexeril). I took 2 of these tablets as per the label on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (?) My pain became measured as 7-10 at various times and I was admitted to the ER for evaluation and care on Monday 7/25/18. I was confused and was admitted for further evaluation and treatment. I have been discharged and now have learned that Cyclobenzaprene has some side effects including difficulty urinating, pain on urination, confusion, constipation, and sensitivity to touch. My doctor has advised me to stop taking the Flexeril and I have done so. Can you tell me if Flexeril could cause an adverse reaction with Xaralto,Dofetilide,Simfastatin, Claritin, Tramadol and/or Pantoprazole .Do any of these drugs contraindicate taking Flexeril?

Brief Answer:
Caution is advised with Tramadol

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Cyclobenzaprene is safe with all the drugs except Tramadol.

Tramadol is known to increase the blood serotonin levels along with Cyclobenzaprene predisposing you to develop serotonin syndrome.

Hence it's advisable to taper Tramadol after discussing with your physician.
