Doctor's reply to your question above...
Brief Answer:
It is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us about it.

I can understand your concern, though.

If your daughter in indent to planning pregnancy, she should not take enchorate it may cause birth defect in her baby and it is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Hence she should consult her treating physician and switch over to other antiepileptic drugs or combination therapy which is safer during pregnancy.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more question.

Good luck.

IS IT OK BY SUBSTITUTING BY LEVERA OR LAMITOR
Asked by Me , Tue, 28 Oct 2014
Doctor's reply to your question above...
Brief Answer:
Yes, she can use it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nice to find out from you all again.

Commencement of all it is very important to know that no anticonvulsant drug is 100% safe, but as such use of Levera is quite safe (fetal risk as such not documented).

But close monitoring is constantly required.

Please start folic acid 5 mg daily along with anti convulsant drug so the chances of neurological deficit are less.

She should always under close observation of her treating physician during her pregnancy to avoid any future consequences.

Hope it's been helpful.

Best of luck to her in the future!

Brief Answer:
Yes folic acid dosage are fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, ma'am,

Thanks for believing me again about your daughter's health care.

Congratulations on her pregnancy.

I have worked through our previous discussion also.

Yes, in my opinion folic acid 5 milligram
daily dose is appropriate in her case and it should be continued at the end of the first trimester.

Folic acid is very useful for neurological development of foetus and prevent neural tube defects in foetus.

Make her a healthy and balanced diet, she should do some yoga and meditation and make her happy and feel comfortable and enjoy her motherhood.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more.

Brief Answer:
Scan seems to be normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, ma'am,
Regretful for the long delay in my response.
I have gone through her ultrasound scan reports and everything seems to be normal means her baby is not affected by her disease and medication.
Yes, folic acid is very important in epileptic patients for their foetal neural development.
Special precautions during pregnancy and childbirth required in her case.
She should keep her pregnancy under observation of gynaecologist, neurologist, perinatologist and paediatrician.
During gestation and childbirth special care should be taken so chances of seizure may reduce. Continuous monitoring of antiepileptic drug is needed throughout pregnancy and childbirth.
Vitamin k should not be given after delivery.
Labour should not be extended.
Seizures should be warded off with appropriate dosage of antiepileptic drugs.
Delivery should be performed in well equipped hospital with facilities of NICU.
After delivery baby should be held back in continuous monitoring.
Hope it is useful, feel free to discuss.
Again sorry for delay in my response.
Regards
