Is It Safe To Go Out In The Sun During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: I'm 29 weeks pregnant and with it getting warm out, my husband and I always spend a lot of time at the river. Well I wanted to know. We are thinking about going this weekend for a few hours. Well it's supposed to be 100 degrees out. The river is at about 70 degrees or a tad higher. Is it safe for me to go, bring lots of water and hang out in the water to stay cool? Or would the heat and or cool water affect my baby? I want to enjoy the summer like always but scared to hurt my baby.

Brief Answer:
Will not harm baby.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
At 29 weeks pregnancy with no problems till now, you can enjoy your summers as long as you do not feel uncomfortable or nauseous. Do take a rest in case you feel tired or any pain in the lower abdomen due to exertion. Overstressing might cause tiredness. There is as such no harm to the baby involved. Go for regular antenatal check ups.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

So it absolutely cannot harm my baby being in that heat (100 degrees) as long as I'm staying cool in the river and drinking plenty of water?

Yes. Baby is safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Yes. There is no harm in going in the heat. Keep yourself well hydrated. The baby remains safe inside womb and does not feel the temperature changes.

Last question. The 70 degree water won't cool my body enough to be too cold for the baby if I'm in it a lot?

Brief Answer:
Don't stay in it for more than 15 minutes.

Detailed Answer:
Do not stay in such a cool water for too long. It can cause a feeling of numbness. But it should not affect the blood supply to the baby.
Regards.
