Brief Answer:
depends on the condition of the baby.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

If the baby is suffering from only cough and cold but no fever then she is suffering from viral infection. Viral infections does not require any antibiotic therapy at all. Only Nasal drops and an antihistaminic drop will suffice. Since she is suffering for more than 10 days, I have concern regarding proper wrapping of the baby to keep her warm. If the baby's body temperature drops frequently may be due to lack of proper wrapping or use of too chilled AC then this cough and cold will continue to be a problem.

Intramuscular injection of Taxim is not at all recommended.

You have to keep the baby warm and provide proper breast feeding. Use nasoclear nasal drop before feeding. Also you can try Maxtra drop 0.5 ml thrice daily for 5 days.
I am not in favour of giving Taxin inj.

Thank you sir for your suggestion.

One more thing...
I have consulted with another child specialist today.
He has prescribed the following medicines -
1. Clarithromycin Oral suspension (125 mg/5ml) - 15 drops 2 times for 7 days
2. Colicade for pain in abdomen
3. N-clin drop 1 drop at night.

Are the medicines ok?

The baby is feeding breast milk properly, sleeping as well. But there are some cough and cold noise.

Any suggestion.........

Brief Answer:
ok

Detailed Answer:
Yes they are ok but clarithromycin is again a antibiotic which may or may not be need. Maxtra drop 8 drops thrice daily can give her some symptomatic releive from cough and cold. Your doctor didnt give anything for the same. N clin can be used upto 4 times per day to relieve nasal block.... But the important thing is to prevent the occurance of cold by proper maintaining of warm environment.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have arranged for Maxtra drop and now she is better but now from cough and cold the problems are-
1. Urine has been passed only for 3 times till now from 12 a.m.
2. Wind is passing but no stool since last night 9:30 p.m.
3. The baby is crying during sleep suddenly. There is some uneasy feeling.

Is there any medicine for regular stool and urine? Please suggest......

Answered by Dr. Sabyasachi Das (6 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
normal things

Detailed Answer:
Babies are not toilet trained and nearly every mother complains me regarding urine and stool. But you have to understand that they donot have control on their tummy and urine and they have no routine. If a baby passes 6 times urine in24hrs its normal, if a baby passes stool 7 times daily or once in 3 days - its also normal. You can use colicaid drop 10 drops when he is having tummy related cries... Hope this helps.

What are the precautions for underweight baby?

What should we do and don't?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sabyasachi Das (12 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Be Confident

Detailed Answer:
Babies are vulnerable from a variety of dangers. Underweight babies are more vulnerable.

1. Take care that the baby is always warm. Try to wrap every part of the body including arms and legs. Always feel the temperature of the abdomen and hand and sole. The temperature of hand and sole should be same as that of abdomen. If the hands and sole are cooler than abdomen your child is loosing much of his energy in producing heat and will not grow satisfactorily. Try to wrap his arms and legs thoroughly.

2. Feed the baby frequently at 1.30 hrs - 2 hrs interval even at night. Breast feeding is best for baby particularly underweight babies.

3. Burp the baby thoroughly before putting to bed. If not done properly child may vomit after feeds.

4. Start vit D and Multivitamin drops.

5. Dont allow any member with flu to come near the baby. Also restrict handling of the baby within few close persons. Restrict visitors from handling the baby.

6. Immunise the baby properly with all the available vaccines.

7. Have confident on yourself, you are the best person in the whole world to give the best care to the baby.

hope this helps.

Everything is fine except one...

If production of breast milk is not enough, what should be done? Is there any alternative food for breast milk? Please suggest....

Doctor already tried mama's best and lactonic granuels....What else can be provided to the mother for sufficient breast milk?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sabyasachi Das (51 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Not a problem

Detailed Answer:
People keeps on asking this question to me on and on. Every one is so anxious about not producing enough milk. But in reality there is no such thing as insufficient milk production of mother (except in few rare diseases)

Actually milk production is like demand and supply. If the baby demands more milk and he is hungry , he will go on suckling on the breast. This suckling will send a trigger in the body and mother shall produce more milk automatically. Its only required from the mother to be relaxed and cuddle her baby often, play with him. The baby in your lap is by far the best medicine to increase milk production.

It has been seen a mother can satisfy the hunger of even a triplet and the production increases with demand. Try to forget that any alternatives are available in the market and you have to breast feed the baby at all cost and there will be no problem.
