Question: My daughter her age is 5 years 6 months, discharging light yellow liquid i hope it is discharging from Vagina. She is itching front side. We can see little bit light yellow color discharge in her underwear. This started since 20 days, and now she is saying itching is not there.

Her mother is having the same problem but not itching and a kind of smell is there some time. Her age is 30.

Is it a kind of bacterial infection or any other reason please advise and prescribe any medicine for my daughter and if possible to my wife as well.

Brief Answer:
Can be bacterial vaginosis.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The yellowish discharge that your daughter is having is likely to be due to a bacterial infection. It is mostly caused by an anaerobic organism, G. vaginalis. It can be associated with other vaginal infection like yeast infection etc. Metronidazole or same categorical drug (like Tinidazole / secnidazole) is the treatment of choice to cure BV. It can be taken as 2 gm single dose. In mixed vaginal infection, AFS kit (combination of Azithromycin, Fluconazole & Secnidazole) is quite effective. Local application of 2% clindamycin gel is also helpful.

But these are all prescription only drugs and should be started after confirmation of diagnosis after a direct examination by a gynecologist.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
