Is It Necessary To Change Gluformin XL Despite Having Slightly Elevated Sugar Levels?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: The Fasting Blood Sugar of my wife (aged 59 years) is 124 and HbA1C is 6.5. She has been taking Gluformin XL 1000 one tab everyday for last 2 years.
But her sugar level does not vary much. Fasting Sugar level is always from 120 to 124. PP sugar level always falls below the normal level.
Plz suggest whether she should change the tablet to lessen the sugar level ?

Dear Doctor,

There is no side effect felt by her till this date.

Brief Answer:
Avoid high carbohydrate diet..encourage eggeterian/vegetetian diet..

Detailed Answer:
Hai its a tricky question really..

Just Avoid complex sugars (present in rice) at night importantly
and don't encourage saturated fats like fried chicken, fish etc..

Encourage millets like ragi, barley, whole wheat breads etc other than rice
Leguminous vegetables like beans, kala channa, soya protein should be encouraged instead of animal fat foods.

Boiled vegetable soups, salads are recommended too
.

Thank you doctor for your wise suggestion.

My wife also takes Rozavale-5 for high Cholesterol.
Is it her fate to take Gluformin-1000 and Rozavale-5 for indefinite period for her entire life span ?
If the Blood Sugar and Cholesterol fall below the limit of risk, will the medication be stopped ?

Brief Answer:
No.

Detailed Answer:
Hai

Thanks for writing back

If she continues to be on gluformin xl, then its mandatory to continue rosuvale. Because sugar fluctuations can be monitored but long term morbid conditions like Ishemic heart disease cannot be predicted. Hence I prefer both the drugs to be continued until and otherwise contraindicated.
