Posted on Thu, 2 Apr 2015
Question: my wife has been on with Seroflo rotacap and immediately thereafter Budecort rotacap for COPD for the past 1 month. She does not have breathlessness on walking or doing any straineous work.
How long should these be continued ?
Is it essential to take Budefort after Seroflo or can it be phased out ?

Brief Answer:
She will need life long therapy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
COPD is chronic, progressive, inflammatory disease of lungs.
So treatment should be continued for lifelong. And inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid are treatment of choice for COPD.
At present she is taking seroflo which is having salmeterol and Fluticasone, budecort which is having budesonide.
Fluticasone and budesonide, both are inhaled corticosteroid with same efficacy and same duration of action.
So no need to take both ,Fluticasone and budesonide.
Seroflo is sufficient and no need for budecort.
So she can actually stop budecort and continue with seroflo.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
