Is It Common To Have Small Lesions In Occipital Lobe?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: Hi, I have asked a few questions in the past and I'm not sure how to go back to those physicians to reply
So I guess I should ask a questions again.
Is it common to have small lesions in occipital lobe at age 17 and be nothing?
Symptoms are persitant visual auras with periods of colors or flashes that are brief at times. Nystagmus noted at time of increased symptoms
mri showed increased flare in bilateral occipital lobes
EEG a few days later was normal
No bloodwork was done no one seems to know what's going on.
We saw one neurologist who referred us to another neurologist and this last neurologist referred us to an neuro-ophthalmologist.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Increased FLAIR signal at your age need evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi again. At your age hyper intense signal in occipital lobes on MRI could not be nothing. As discussed before in our conversations, in my opinion you should discuss with your treating Doctor further tests to check for/ rule out Multiple sclerosis ( mentioned before). If EEG resulted normal this excludes occipital lobe epilepsy. Again, another condition to evaluate is Multiple Sclerosis. If tests mentioned before result negative, then your MRI findings and symptoms probably caused from basilar migraine. Hope this helps. Best regards.
