Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
hi,

Upper GI bleed could be due to number of reasons. Taking into consideration the drinking history , it could have been a local erosion, tear or polyp that was damaged.

To allay any fears, please get a Gastroenterology consult done to assess you for the need of upper GI endoscopy , as only that can accurately rule out any related condition which was responsible for the blood in vomitus.

Get a Chest X ray stool R/E , Ultrasound abdomen and pelvis, Hepatitis profile , LFTs, RFTs, CBC done in consult with your doctor to rule out other causes of the upper GI bleed.

Let me know if you have any query

wishing you best of health

Thanks

Detailed Answer:
hi,

Cancer can only be diagnosed via endoscopy and biopsy , If you have been a chronic smoker and consuming alcoholic in large amount frequently then you have a greater chance.

Please don't worry , cancer is among one of the possibilities , it could be esophagitis, GERD or a simple erosion that healed itself.

To have peace of mind, get tested.

May the odds be in your favor.

hi,

Its called Mallory–Weiss syndrome , If you had alcohol, severe retching, coughing, or vomiting, in your history , then an esophageal tear would be on the top of my diagnosis list.

Ok awesome thanks you sir sometimes I get a taste of blood in my mouth but I also have chronic sinuses and I think that's why I'm a hypochondriac
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Muhammad Sareer Khalil (6 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
explained

Detailed Answer:
hi,

Anosmia due to chronic atrophic sinusitis can develop, though you should undergo an antibiotic course of Augmentin to clear your sinuses with anti histamines and nasal sprays like rhino clenil.

Altered sensation in your mouth , has this been present for long or after the vomiting episode ?

for the hypochondriac issue
I would suggest you consult a psychiatrist
so that a XXXXXXX mental state exam is performed.
to ascertain depression and or anxiety,
Meds can be adjusted afterwards in addition
to cognitive behavioral therapy. Yoga and meditation , too have proven benefit
in addition to relaxing exercise.

thanks

It's been going on since dec last year off and on but my sinuses have also been on and off

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
hi.

Causes of impaired taste range from the common cold to more serious medical conditions involving the central nervous system
The common cold, flu, sinus infections, and throat infections such as strep throat and pharyngitis can all be factors in your experiences of impaired taste. Salivary gland infections may also cause your sense of taste to be “off.”

Other causes of impaired taste include:
•smoking
gum inflammation (such as gingivitis or periodontal disease)
•medication use (including lithium, thyroid medications, and cancer treatments)
Sjogren’s syndrome (an autoimmune disease that causes dry mouth and dry eyes)
•head or ear injuries
•nutritional deficiencies, especially vitamin B-12 and zinc

Treating the underlying condition that causes your impaired sense of taste can help restore your taste. Bacterial sinusitis, salivary glands, and throat infections can be treated with antibiotics. Symptoms of colds, flu, and allergic rhinitis that impact taste may be relieved with decongestants or antihistamines. Once you are feeling better, your taste will most likely return quickly.

Your doctor may prescribe medications to minimize the effects of a nervous system disorder or an autoimmune disease that cause impaired taste.

Zinc supplementation can improve taste in some people, according to the Bastyr Center for Natural Health. Studies reported in the Journal of Dental Research showed that 140 mg of zinc taken daily for three months improved taste in up to 50 percent of study participants.
