Is Intake Of Wine Advisable While On Candesartan?

default
Posted on Sat, 19 Dec 2015
Question: Hello, I am currently working with my doctor to control my BP. Both my parents have hypertension, but are slim active and doing ok on meds. I'm on hctz 25 with candesartan 32mg. Have been slowly increasing candesartan this month. My systolic is normal, but diastolic is 88-90 in am before meds. I like to drink wine, 3-4 days a week, 3-4 glasses a night. Does this interfere with the candesartan? I know it can cause it to be low, but that doesn't happen. I exercise, but probably have to much salt. 53 years old. Thanks

Brief Answer:
It is better to cut the amount of wine you take

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

I would advise you to cut the amount of wine you take. Especially if it is a red wine, it increases blood pressure and has some interaction with medications.
I would advise you to decrease the amount of fine from 3-4 glasses to 1-2 glasses, as it has favorable effects if taken in small quantities
Jogging and walking much will help to control diastolic blood pressure.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health

Thanks for response. I drink white wine. I'm going to try to stop drinking it for the next few weeks while we try to get meds adjusted. My father is a recovered alcoholic so that's always in my mind. It's hard to talk with my own doctor about alcohol use...he's not worried about it, but I am sometimes. I also have stressful job, but can't change that. Thanks for your help. Will do a nice power walk today!
