Is Intake Of Pepcid Advisable For A SJ Syndrome Patient?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Mar 2016
Question: I'm considering taking Pepcid for acid reflex. Is this drug more strongly implicated in Stevens XXXXXXX syndrome than other over the counter anti acid meds? I've not had SJ nor has anyone in my family but
it worries me because it's such an extreme side effect. ---

Brief Answer:
It is rare side effect of pepcid, you can take ranitidine for acid reflux

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.
XXXXXXX XXXXXXX syndrome can occur with pepcid. However its very rare and there are few case reports only. It is not strongly implicated as a culprit but can occur.

Other anatacids and H2 receptor antagonist like ranitidine, famotidine are rather safe and are given in the treatment of SJ syndrome for relief in gastritis.

So If you are worried about this side effect of Pepcid although it is rare you can take ranitidine 150mg twice a day after meals for acid reflux

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
