Is Hives At The Site Of Injection Taken For Pneumonia Normal?

Question: I am 65 and i got the pneumonia vaccine n Friday. The arm has been sore ever since to the touch but last night i noticed 3 quarter sized hives on that arm near the shot site. Is this a normal reaction?

Hello. I just read through your question.
Redness and soreness are very common with any vaccine. Not so with hives, however. The fact that it's only a mild case of hives and that it didn't appear until almost 48 hours after the vaccine, makes this less of an acute concern. It is, however, something to mention to your doctor at your next exam, mainly as it may affect decisions regarding future vaccines.
In the meantime, a dose of Benadryl to control the hives is a good idea. If the symptoms worsen, contact your doctor.
