Brief Answer:
Regular exercise is recommended in diabetes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.

Usually 150min per week of moderate degree physical exercise is recommended in diabetes.

For joining gym for heavy exercise with age of 45 there may not be any issues as you are already on moderate degree physical activity (brisk walking).
But it will be better to consult your treating diabetologist or physician for basic cardiac (heart) evaluation depending upon it there may be need for trade mill test (TMT) to know degree of exercise tolerance.

Along with it follow diabetic diet, undergo regular screening for diabetic complications.

Hope this helps you.

Dr Abhay Mali.
