Is Fasting Sugar Level Of 299 A Cause For Concern?

Posted on Wed, 22 Mar 2017
Question: My fasting sugar level was 299 two weeks ago. Since then I have cleaned up my act food wise (I eat like a 12 year old) and I tested at 136 this morning. Seems better eating has me headed in the right direction. Can I realistically get and keep this under control without meds...already take enough of those for cholesterol and BP!

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your query!
Congratulation for the huge improvement of the glucose levels without treatment for such a short time!
Even though HbA1c level is needed to judge better about the mean glucose level of the last three months and say rather the diet without oral antidiabetic tablets can improve the blood glucose levels.
If HbA1c is too high (over 8%) you need oral antidiabetic tablets (as your treating physician recommended) for some months, until you reach your ideal weight.

Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
dr.Mirjeta
