Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,
Hope you are doing good. I was in touch with you few days back.
A quick history......my wife underwent laproscopic surgery for stones in gall bladder on 1st August this year.
Also, she is having PCOD for which she is advised regular exercise by Gynaecologist. Please help in answering following queries:

1. Can she start exercise now considering that she was operated on 1st August?
2. Can she start dancing? She is fond of learning dance.
3. Can she take alcohol occasionally?

Brief Answer:
Yes to all, take care, be observant, increase gradually exercises and dance

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your queries and remembrance.

Nice to know that your wife is doing fine as the further plans are on the anvil.
It is almost 6 weeks post-operative.

Noted the history of PCOD and the advise for exercises.
To answer your queries:
1. Can she start exercise now considering that she was operated on 1st August?
>Yes, she can start exercises.

2. Can she start dancing? She is fond of learning dance.
>Dancing per say is also a good part of exercises and can start slowly and increase over time, and anyway she is learning.

3. Can she take alcohol occasionally?
> Oh, this is a bit tricky one.She can take alcohol occasionally in moderate quantity say 90 ml.

The only precautions to be taken are:
You both have to be observant, watch for any problem like pain in abdomen or any other problems and reduce or stop the above things we are discussing.
And if there is no problem to continue.

I hope these answer your queries, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
Since your wife is 29, she shall cope up with every part nicely.
Wishing you both a great time and future.
All the best.

Hi Doctor,
Thanks for your reply.

Is there any problem doing abs exercise/crunches or bending exercises? or is there any specific suggestion from your side on the type of exercises she can start with?

Answered by Dr. T Chandrakant (49 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
avoid anything that puts strain on abs.

Detailed Answer:
Since it is 6 weeks past surgery without any problems. This is one and half months, not yet 3 months.
Hence the abs and crunches are best avoided for 6 more weeks.
Bending exercises definitely can be done.
Any exercises that do not strain the abdominal muscles for further 6 weeks, After three months after surgery she can get the whole range of activities.

I hope this helps.
