Brief Answer:
Injection decreases nerve root inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

I have gone through your other queries as well. You are suffering from degenerative disc disease of cervical spine. It is age related finding.
It is important to know about status of nerve roots compression.

Majority of disc disease are managed by conservative means like physiotherapy, medicines.Main aim is to strengthen muscles so that further progression of disease can be halted.

Epidural steriod injection is commonly practiced. It decreases nerve roots inflammation so that patient feel well and can do exercises regularly, but this is not a permanent cure.Ultimate target is to strengthen muscles.

Other modalities are neural foramen block,TENS(trans cutaneous electric nerve stimulation) etc.

Surgery is advised in refractory cases.
Now a days, transcutaneous endoscopic resection of herniated disc is also advised.

Get well soon.
Hope i have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
