Posted on Wed, 30 Jul 2014
Question: What if I'm pregnant and ate some hard boiled eggs that have been in the fridge for over 7 days.. well over 7 days. But they did not smell bad, taste bad, and had no discoloration?

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM,

It seems that you had eaten some stale eggs but they did not look bad.

It is extremely difficult to tell about the condition of the eggs and the degeneration that they must have undergone during the storage process.

However since there was no obvious smell, discoloration or bad taste it may be possible that they may not have gone bad.

As of now, there is no way out as the eggs have already been consumed. So just wait and watch if any signs of food poisoning like nausea, vomiting and pain in abdomen appear. If they appear then you may need to see a doctor urgently.

If these symptoms are not there then nothing needs to be done. However please be careful in future. It is recommended to eat fresh home made cooked food during pregnancy so as to avoid any unpleasant effects.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Thank you. I actually decided to induce vomiting immediately after eating them just to be safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

As you have already eaten the eggs and by now some of them may have been absorbed too.

It will help if you could provide me with the duration of your pregnancy. I would not recommend inducing a vomiting unless it is absolutely necessary to do so as it may lead to other issues like problems with food pipe and stomach.

If you are feeling fine there must not be any issues. If you have even the slightest nausea or pain or vomiting please see your doctor immediately.
