Is Development Of Third Vein On Left-sided Chest Wall A Concern?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Sep 2016
Question: Hi
Over the past year and half, I have started to develop thread veins on the left side of my chest, just at the margin of my pectoral muscle (I am male). I have read that this can be a sign of liver disease. I am in good health, have not experienced sudden weight loss or any other obvious symptoms of illness. But I am slightly concerned about this, as I know it can be a sign of something serious. Are there any other explanations for why I might have developed these veins?

Brief Answer:
just aging can be a cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for including the photo.
These types of veins can just occur as we get older. if you are concerned about liver disease then I suggest that you see a doctor and get liver enzymes done as well as tests for hepatitis if you are at risk.
Many people start developing these veins after 40 years of age and it is not necessarily a sign of anything serious.
Your GP can do some basic blood tests for liver function and put your mind at ease. Don't worry just get it checked out.
