Question: I am not a fast typer. I am using this product for asthma. I have been having trouble with my eye sight being blurry. I can shut either eye and it is clear. Have changed eye glasses twice but I still have the trouble. Could this medication be causing this problem? My email address is YYYY@YYYY .
The medication is albuterol and ipratropium bromide.

Brief Answer:
It may be that some medicine is entering the eyes.

Detailed Answer:

Hello Dear,

Thanks for posting your query on HCm.

Blurring of vision has been mentioned as a remote side effect of albuterol ipratropium. This is not because the drug interferes with vision as such but it is because while taking the inhaler some amount of medicine may enter the eyes causing local irritation to the eyes thus blurring the vision.

You have to be careful while taking the inhalers so as aerosol does not enter your eye or you may use a device called spacer to take the inhaler.

I use a spacer to use the inhaler. I have never had any get in my eyes.
the blurring I experience is not temporary. It is constant and I have had it for a year or more. The dispenser Is a measured amount that is dispensed by me twisting the canister and pushing on a button to release it automatically.

The article I read about it stated that it was a side effect of the medicine ,not a caution about getting some of the medicine in the eye.
I do not feel that your answer is very good...

Brief Answer:
In literature blurring of vision has not been mentioned as side effects

Detailed Answer:

I have searched the literature and could not find blurring of vision as a very significant side effect of the medicine you are using. These are very common inhalers used for treatment of asthma and in my long practice I have not come across this particular side effect in any of my patients.

In the literature blurring of vision has been mentioned only secondary to medicine getting in the eyes.

I can only suggest that you may consult an ophthalmologist and get your vision tested. There may be some other cause for blurring of vision.

Take care.
