Is Blood Urea Nitrogen Level Of 24 Mg/dL A Cause For Concern?

Posted on Tue, 16 Feb 2016
Question: I have a high protein diet and my BUN level is 24 with the BUN/Creat Ratio at 30. Is 30 considered very high? I know it is over the recommended range of 9-23 from my doctor. I am currently seeing a urologist and have not spoken to him about the results yet, but I am anxious.

Brief Answer:
High protein diet is the cause

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Usually a higher blood urea nitrogen and creatine levels are indicative of kidney problems but its not the case in your scenario. High protein diet is the commonest cause of these raised levels. Just reduce the protein intake and these values will go down. Any catabolic diet will do that to a person.

Nutshell, i believe its the high protein diet and not the kidneys. So no worries and modify diet. I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
