Is Bi-lateral Joint Pain, mouth Sores And UTI Symptoms Of Lupus?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jun 2014
Question: I have bi-lateral joint pain in my wrists and fingers. Over the last six months, I've had unexplained mouth sores (that went away), swelling of my hands and ankles, a sudden severe bladder infection with blood in the urine, extreme fatigue and other vague issues. The joint pain has been painful and longer standing - enough to seek treatment. I was treated for carpal tunnel to no effect. Blood tests showed a negative ANA but a positive dna double-stranded AB of 174.2. The creatnine was normal at .73 with a note that said it was normal only if Kidney disease was not suspected. My kidneys failed after two out of three pregnancies and I had proteinuria after all three. Is this indicative of Lupus?

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that looking into the history that your are giving in my opinion yes there definitely exists a possibilty that you may be having LUPUS . Although your ANA is negative but it just forms one of the criteria in 11 criterias for diagnosing LUPUS.

I will advise you to get an ENA profile done , urine for 24 hour protein , urine protein creatinine ratio , Anti beta2 gp1 antibody , anticardiolipin antibody , lupus anticoagulant assay . They are very inportant to rule out lupus plus ANA needs to be repeated for confirmation . You should talk to your treating doctor regarding thuis.

Take care.
