Is An AST And ALT Level Of 30 Considered High?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Feb 2015
Question: Recent blood test indicated that my SGOT (AST) and SGPT (ALT) were each 30. Aren't those levels a bit high? I don't drink or smoke or take meds. I eat a low fat, high carb, vegan diet.

Brief Answer:
not a cause to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Most labs have an upper limit of normal of about 40.
Recently the normal levels have been lowered to 19 for women. These are uses in the context of hepatitis B and C as a guideline to start treatment.

Were hepatitis B and C tests negative? If yes then, I wouldn't worry about the levels.

Hope this helps
