Is Alcohol Consumption Safe While On Griseofulvin?

Question: I'm on Griseofulvin 250mg 2x daily for ringworm. I want to know if I can have acohol with it? I'm planning a vacation over the holiday and won't be done yet. Could I just skip the evening pill or something?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this ringworm that you have. Unfortunately, drinking alcohol while on this medication is not the best way to go because it can cause disturbing symptoms such as flushing, rapid heart beat, nausea, vomiting, etc. This is extremely difficult and I will not recommend that you discontinue your medication as drugs need to work continuous for best effects. Stopping will allow the fungi to start growing again and may become resistant.

In all, alcohol not advisable and I will not advise that you discontinue the treatment for fear of treatment failure and drug resistant.
