Is Alcohol Consumption A Major Contributing Factor To Grade-2 Fatty Liver?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Dec 2015
Question: I am 43 yrs old, and just got a fibroscan results of 4.4 kPa, and a CAP value of 251 dB/m. They say I have Grade 2 Fatty Liver. I had been drinking 1/2 bottle of red wine 4-5x per week for past 10 years. My question is, if I cut down my drinking by 90%, meaning no alcohol except occassional glass during parties. Have good diet, and exercise, how long will it take for my fatty liver condition to reverse ?

I hope to achieve a Fibroscan score of below 200, how long will this take ? Will this be possible ?
I believe my fatty liver is from excessive drinking !

Hi and welcome.
Considering these amoount of alcohol then fatty liver is probably caused by alcohol intake, however it may have been aggravated by hyperlipidemia, high blood sugar or inapropriate diet. Fatty liver is fortunately reversible process and much less serious than cirrhosis which is irreversible. This fobroscan show moderate fatty liver values and normalization period depends form man to man, but in case of maximal reduce of alcohol and watching your diet, it should be below 200 in 8-12 months. Wish you good health. Regards
