Is Administering Local Anaesthesia Before A Dental Procedure Safe In A Child?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Oct 2016
Question: My four (4) year old daughter is scheduled tomorrow to have a very small cavity filled. They indicated that they will be administering nitrous oxide (N2O) while they are filing the cavity. I'm somewhat apprehensive about her receiving N2O at such a young age. Do you think most DDS know how to properly administer such a anesthetic, especially in young children?

Brief Answer:
Safe to reduce anxiety of kid during dental treatment..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain Nitrous oxide sedation is commonly given to toddles and kids to reduce anxiety and ease the dental treatment procedure..

It is commonly given so that is not an issue and as far as the efficiency of dentist to administer anaesthesia is concerned they are trained in doing so..

However I would suggest you to confirm with the dentist and if possible consult a Pedodontist and get evaluated as they are specialist dentist for kids and can effectively perform dental procedures with or without anaesthesia..

Any further questions are welcome..

Hope this helps..

Regards.

Thank you. My other concern is this is Western Dental. It is my understanding that Western Dental has been under investigation in the past for performing procedures that were not necessary. Recently in a town close to mine, there was a toddler that was anesthetized using nitrous oxide, who died during the dental procedure.

Would you recommend a 2nd consult from a Pedodontist?

Brief Answer:
Yes, consult a Pedodontist..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

Western dental provides general dental services and in case if there is any doubt I would rather advise consult a Specialist and a Pedodontist is appropriate in this regards..
So first consult a Pedodontist as to fill a simple cavity they might not even give anesthesia and they have other behavioral management techniques..

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards.
