Is A Weight Of 5.67 Normal For A 6 Month Old Child?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: My baby girl is now 6 months old . Her birth weight was 2.57kg. She had no fever/infections or feeding problems. She is exclusively on breast feed. Her birth weight is now 5.67 kg and length 62 cm . Milk secretion is good. She is not irritable, no vomiting , no digestive problems. Is there anything to worry about?
What can we do to increase her weight. We have started rice ceralac, homemade fruit puree , mashed potato , mashed banana for her just few days back . What else can we do??

Brief Answer:
Weight and height both are normal for age

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Weight of baby gets double by 6 months of age.So I won't get worried for weight.Similarly length of 62 cm is also normal.

At 6 month of age complementary feed should be started. You have already started complementary feed.Complementary feed should be started one by one so that If there is allergy or intolerance to any particular cereal that can be detected easily.
As you have started rice with potato and fruits I would suggest you to give pulses after few days.Don't add salt, egg or cow milk till one year of age.
You can add butter/ghee to the rice/khichadi/dal after one month.
Continue breast feed 4-5 times a day (particularly during night time).
I would like to appreciate the way of good care as indicated by proper growth of baby.
Do ask if you have any more query.
Regards
