Is A Hard Blueish And Sore Lump Around Anus A Symptom Of Hemorrhoid?

Question: Hi. Yesterday I purchased a new bicycle and rode it 10 miles. The seat of the bicycle is a bit hard and during the ride I felt numbness in my groin and anal region. Upon returning home last night before bed, I noticed a hard blueish lump near the front of my anus. This morning, the lump still remained and was very sore. It is about 1cm in diameter and is tucked in the front corner of my anus. Do you think this lump is a perianal hematoma or an external hemorrhoid? Furthermore, my general practitioner and proctologist are not availavle until early next week.I prefer not to go to an emergency room. What treatment do you suggest? Is there a chance that I can solve this problem at home. Thank you.

Your history is suggestive of a hematoma secondary to injury from the hard bicycle seat

If you have no lower Gastrointestinal symptoms it is more likely a hematoma

You may try treating it at home till your consultant is available

Apply ice to the local area

Take a good anti-inflammatory agent like ibuprofen three times a day after breakfast lunch and dinner

If the pain and size increases or you develop fever you should approach the ER

Dr. Ajit,

Thank you for your help and concern. Over the past two days, the hematoma has become less sore, however, its size has remained unchanged. Approximately how long will the hematoma take to dissapear in its entirity? Once healed,will it leave behind a skin tag or completly dissolve?

Furthermore, I am a college student in the USA. I have a summer job landscaping which requires me to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor. Is it safe to return to work this week with my hematoma or should I take off and wait for it to dissapear? Thanks again

Thanks again for your patience and time. In regards to the skin tag, would it be large enough that I would need it removed or would it be comfortable to live with?

Furthermore, should I abstain from riding my bike until this hematoma disappears? Continuing, should I purchase a new bicycle seat so the problem does not manifest in the future? If so, what type of bicycle seat should I look for?

The skin tag will not be big enough to cause you any problems

If it gets thrombosed again you might need to get it removed

It would surely help you heal faster if you keep away from using the triggering factor

You may get a better cushioned soft seat which does not hurt at the targeted area
