Brief Answer:
normally not

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

this is a high blood pressure but not too much. Only patients with aneurysms or serious heart disease may be negatively affected. The rest of the patients will have to manage hypertension, so that its long term complications won't occur (atherosclerosis, enlarged heart, stroke, etc). So it's not an immediate problem for most people.

One thing to consider is whether this is a credible measurement or not. The blood pressure has to be measured with e validated device with the patient sitting calmly on a chair for about 5-10 minutes and take at least 2 measurements. The right one is usually the lower. A good practice is to take a 3rd measurement if the first two are significantly different. For example if the first measurement is 175/99 and the 2nd is 160/92, taking a 3rd measurement is recommended. In that case either the lower measurement or the mean value between the two lowest measurements is more close to the true blood pressure.

Since there's concern about hypertension in your case, I would suggest taking some measurements (morning and evening) for a week or so (remember to follow the aforementioned "rules") and see what happens. If most measurements are higher than 140/90 then this is arterial hypertension. In case of doubtful results, 24 hour measurements with a Holter device may clarify this issue.

General advice about hypertension include the following:
- watch the salt intake. Watch for the "hidden" salt in particular. Salt may "hide" in cheese, various snacks, too much bread, salty pies, etc.
- keep your body weight close to the ideal weight.
- engage in daily light physical activity (walking is enough) unless contraindicated by other medical disorders.
- a healthy diet is always helpful. Avoiding too much fat (particularly saturated fat) and preferring to consume monounsaturated fat (olive oil for example) and omega-3 fat (fish mostly). Avoid sugar. Consume fruits and vegetables every day.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
