Is A TSH Level Of 2.59 To 3.14 A Cause For Concern?
Question: My wife aged 27 years experiencing symptoms of hypothyroidism like hair fall, foot pain after waking up in the morning, head ache. have seen increase in TSH levels from 2.59 to 3.14 in 4 months. My mom has hypothyroidism and my mom's sister as well has hypothyroidism. Please let me know if I have to start medication.

We start thyroid medications in females ( who are not pregnant) when TSH go above 5. The symptoms of hypothyroidism are non specific. So no need to start treatment based on symptoms.
Please do an anti thyroid antibodies ( anti TPO and Anti TG) during the blood test to see if she is at risk of developing hypothyroidism, since there is a family history.
