Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Condoms are recommended for safe sex practices. They protect partners from infections like HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Genital warts.

2. It protects from unwanted pregnancy.

3. There can be breaking of condoms rarely and this is prevented by using recommended techniques to wear and use condoms.

4. Therefore condoms use is safe if it is used in a proper way.

5. If condoms break during sex then it is recommended for the female partner to take a emergency pill and in the event of questionable sexual health or unknown partners then you should consult a HIV counseling center and take post exposure prophylaxis.

doctor
Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Post exposure prophylaxis is to stop HIV after sex with high risk partner

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxx88,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. Post exposure prophylaxis is medicine which is given if you had unprotected sex or condom breaks during sexual intercourse with a partner who can have HIV. This is when having sex with strangers.

2. If condom breaks during sex and both partners are free from HIV in recent report and have been faithful to each other for 6 months then there is no chance of HIV infection. However if one of them has any other infection like Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Genital warts then it can get transmitted between the partners. There is a chance of pregnancy happening.

3. For HIV infection and Hepatitis B and C the blood is to be tested after 6 months. In Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes and Genital warts the required test can be done after 30 days.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

The HIV test in CMIA is completely conclusive after 6 months

Hi xxxxxxxxxx88,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. The HIV test in CMIA is for antibodies to HIV 1 and HIV 2 antibodies. It is 95 percent conclusive after 3 months after sexual intercourse and nearly completely conclusive after 6 months. Therefore if you do the test after 6 months from sexual intercourse and report is normal then there is no HIV infection.
