Is Tamiflu Approved For A 6 Month Old Infant?

Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: Is tamiflu approved for a 6 month old infant? My daughter came down with flu symptoms around 2PM today although she had a flu shot. I'm afraid her baby might catch the flu and I'm thinking maybe she should go to the doctor tomorrow morning and see if they will give them a prescription for tamiflu.

Brief Answer:
It is safe

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Yes, FDA has approved safety of Tamiflu in Infants as low and 2 weeks of age. You can give it safely to your child if the doctor prescribes. However, there are a number of viruses that can cause flu like symptoms and irrespective of treatment such episodes last for 5-7 days.
