default
Posted on Tue, 9 May 2017
Question: My wife is diagnosed with Sjogren Syndrom. Is Sjogren Syndrom a sub set of Rheumatoid Artheritis ? If some one has Sjogren Syndrom then does it mean he/she has Rheumatoid Artheritis ? My wife has Osteoarthertis / Knee problem since 10 years. She went for knee replacement surgery in mid-March 2017. Basically we need more clarity on Sjogren Syndrom & its relation with RA.

Brief Answer:
Primay Sjogren Syndrome is different, Secondary XXXXXXX could be Related to RA.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
Your wife is diagnosed with Sjogren Syndrome and you want to be sure of its correlation to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Sjogren Syndrome is both primary (where its relation to other connective tissue disorders is not established )and secondary Sjogren Syndrome where patient presents with symptoms of Sjogren Syndrome and primary disorder like RA. Clinically the treatment will depend on the nature of disorder- primary or secondary.
In your case , I would think that your wife is suffering from primary Sjogren Syndrome along with Osteoarthrosis.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
