Question: Hello Doctor,

today I really woke up with bad stomach pain and it hurts alot. I has an endoscopy done two weeks ago and they diagnosed I has H Pylori and mild gastritis. Can I take pepto bismol or XXXXXXX seltzer to alleviate the pain? My follow up appointment is FEB 25 and I am assuming they will give me antibiotics. Please help me. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Requires triple regime, antacids for relief now

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
Even though there is no ulcer, there can be pain as you are feeling.
H. Pylori infection has to be treated with the triple regime and eradicated to prevent ulcers and malignancy in the future. After the course of treatment, eradication should be ensured by a C13 Urea Breath Test. XXXXXXX seltzer contains aspirin which is a gastric irritant, so an antacid preparation may be better.
Bismuth compound may also be used by your doctor if the triple regime fails to eradicate the H.Pylori.
