My wife has skipped her periods and is now 10 days more. I have purchased penetrex knot kit for my wife. Is it safe to use. Is there a better medicine? She hasn't started taking it yet.

Brief Answer:
Do home pregnancy test before taking any medicine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

I suggest you to undergo one home pregnancy test with morning urine or blood test for beta-hCG to confirm pregnancy. Above medicine or abortion pill shouldn't be taken without confirmation of pregnancy.

On NEGATIVE test, she has to undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan and complete hormone profile to rule out underlying pathology and pinpoint the diagnosis.

In that case, she may need to take progesterone pill like Norethisterone etc for 5 days to induce period.

On POSITIVE test result, abortion pill should be taken under the guidance of local gynecologist as she needs complete prescription. It will be helpful in emergency situation also.

Kindly, consult with your OBGYN for proper guidance and management of the case.

Hope, it helps for your information. Good luck. Review with test result.

Brief Answer:
Yes, above medicine is used for abortion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for follow up query.

Yes, above medicine is used for medical abortion. However, it is better to contact with local gynecologist as there may be excessive vaginal bleeding and abdominal cramp which can't be control at home. It also helps in emergency and unwanted adverse effects can be minimized.

Hope, it helps for your information. Good luck and take care.

Hi,

After taking mifepristone tablet on past Monday night, my wife had some bleeding with thick blood clots twice today in the morning and afternoon. So she didn't took the misoprostol tablet. Can we consider the abortion done. She is not bleeding like normal periods also not as expected. Does she still needs to take misoprostol? What is the possibility of abortion with mifepristone alone? If she needs to take the misoprostol now how to take it and dosage? Please help we are very confused now!!!!

Brief Answer:
Need to take misoprostol to complete abortion process.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for updated information.

1) In this case, I can suggest her to take TWO Misoprostol tablet by mouth and other TWO tablets are to be inserted inside the vagina to complete the abortion process.

She will get mild to moderate abdominal cramp with vaginal bleeding until product of conception is NOT expelled out completely.

2) Mild bleeding may continue for another 1 to 2 weeks to resolve the abortion completely. Next, follow up examination is required after 1 week to check retained bits or placental tissue. One pelvic ultrasound (post abortion) is must needed to confirm the same.

3) In failed medical abortion (5% cases), surgical procedure (D & C) is required to evacuate uterine cavity completely. In such case, you must consult with her gynecologist for proper management.

Hope, it helps for your information. Maintain genital hygiene and good luck.
