Is OraQuick HIV Test Done 6 Months Post Exposure Conclusive?

Question: Hello - I am a middle class white female who had a sexual encounter with another middle class white make well over 2 years ago. About 2 weeks after the encounter I did get chlamydia and have been in fear ever since that I might have contracted something more serious like HIV.

I finally broke down about 1 year and a few months after my potential exposure and took an oraquick at home test and I saw the saliva start to travel up after 3-5 minutes and it passed the t and I received a bright red mark on the control line which I was relieved to see. I waited another 3 minutes or so and didn't see any change so I panicked and threw the test away - which leads to my first question about the oraquick test. After having been possible exposed for well over a year would the test line have shown up before the control like or within the same minute if it was really positive?

Fast forward and I have currently been with my boyfriend in a monogamous relationship for over 2 years and we have had un protected sex numerous times both on and off my period (blood interaction). He had a western blot test at around the same time I took my at home oraquick so about 6 months since we had started having un protected sex and his test came back negative for everything - my next question is are his results relatively indicative of what mine would be?

Third and final I have had a few general cbc counts with differential since then and all my results have come back on the higher end of normal - would this support a negative result.

I am just wondering after all of that what my possible risk would still be.

Brief Answer:
Line next to only c is negative

Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome to HCM.

Oraquick -- if line next to c and not in t is negative. If it has been at least 3 months since you have had a risk event and you followed the directions carefully, then you likely do not have HIV.

If he is tested negative and you are in monogamous relationship and not exposed to other modes of transmission of infection you are safe.

Changes in. CBC does not indicate HIV.

I hope I have cleared your query.

Take care

My question was if he tested negative does that support that I am also negative?

Also on the oraquick test, I know it says wait 20 minutes before you read the final result. It was well after a year following the encounter so would this make the results appear more quickly assuming the t line is below the c wouldn't it light up first if it was going to be positive?

Brief Answer:
Details are below

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Oraquick -- At 12 weeks there would be antibodies if you have an HIV infection. So test performed after 3 weeks would be able to detect antibodies. If antibodies are present t will light up.

If he is tested negative and you have not exposed to other modes of transmission, you are safe.

Take care.
