Brief Answer:
It can be a drug of abuse and addictive.

Detailed Answer:

Dear Sir, Good Morning!
Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the safety of Lyrica.

It is basically approved in the treatment of painful neuralgias (inflammed nerves) like nerve damage in diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), herpes zoster (post-herpetic neuralgia, or neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury, to control seizures and to treat fibromyalgia.

It is also said to have an abuse potential.
The reasons why it is abused is because of its ability to produce euphoria, elevation of the mood, to heighten the sense of humour and a strong feeling of relaxation.

However, it is not like narcotic pain medications which work through different mechanisms and have different effects which may be harmful and toxic in nature.

Hope the clarifications given above could answer your query.
Wishing you a very good health.
