Brief Answer:
There is more than 99.5 percent accuracy for 6 months testing

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in details.
Your 3 months testing is negative. The 3 months test is most likely conclusive but for peace of mind it is best to do the 6 months test. I re assure you that in your case it will be normal.

There are guidelines formulated by health authorities and one such famous authority is the Center for Disease Control CDC in USA. So if you have an HIV test with a negative result within 3 months of your last possible exposure to HIV, the CDC recommends that you be retested 3 months after that first screening test which is 6 months from date of unprotected sex. The 6 months test has accuracy of more than 99.5 percent.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek

Brief Answer:
Risk is low but repeat testing is required at 6 months

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Since the risk of HIV is from the female partner, any infected vaginal fluid entering the penis during sex carries the risk of transmitting the infection. This is whether you ejaculated or not. The risk depends on the infectivity of female partner, viral load and duration of sex. The risk is about 1 in 10000 people per sexual act getting infected and is very low.

Your concern is understandable and considering all these, if your test is negative after 3 months then your 6 months test will also be negative most likely. Please do not worry and get tested again 3 months from now.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
