Brief Answer:
Etoricoxib-efficacy and safety

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Etoricoxib- EZACT is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and commonly prescribed for relief of pain.It blocks a substance in the body named as cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2)-hence called COX-2 inhibitor
It is a quite effective pain-killer and has low GI side effect unlike other NSAID.

There however is an increased risk of myocardial infarction with COX-2 inhibitors on long term usage.

Dear Dr Biswas
Five years ago I had serious radiculopathy of cervical spondelesis, three years ago it was lumber and had to get MBB procedure done. Most of my tests are very normal. I am on thyroxin 100 mcg OD and Metaformin 500 mg twice a day for stress sugar intolerence, Duodart and Solifen for BPH. Right now having lower back pain mainly. Would you suggest any vitamins or supplements as well. Should I also continue Gabapentin with Etoricoxib. Kindly advise.

Brief Answer:
Gabapentin & Etoricoxib safety

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Gabapentin can be taken for relief of neuralgic pain.
I would advise you to take some other safer analgesic than Etoricoxib.
The US FDA's Arthritis Drugs Advisory Committee declared that the cardiovascular risks of the drug outweigh its benefits for easing arthritis pain.
FDA advisers recommended against approval of Cox-2 inhibitor etoricoxib by a vote 20 to one in April 2012.
