Question: How reliable is HIV 3rd Generation antibody test?

I did HIV test after 17 Months of risky exposure. That was the last exposure. Unprotected vaginal sex with CSW. Result was negative. I am suffering from allergy. IgE 1200.2 and Sinusitis.

Is it reliable? I was taking Seroflo (Corticosteroid) capsule inhaler continuously. Can it delay HIV seroconversion?

Brief Answer:
It is highly reliable and its result has no concern with steroid treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.

You had unprotected vaginal sex with CSW and 3rd generation HIV antibody test is negative after 17 months of exposure then it is highly reliable and conclusive. You are free from HIV because the window period for HIV is also 15 days to 3 months.

For allergy and sinusitis you can consult your physician or ENT specialist and take treatment as per the advice. The steroid inhaler what you are taking has no effect on the result of antibody test so don't worry and move ahead in life happily.

Thank You

Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (7 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No corticosteroid oral tablet can not delay seroconversion.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

There is no evidence that oral corticosteroid tablet can delay seroconversion. So it is safe to say that oral corticosteroid cannot delay seroconversion and I also have not seen anybody seroconverted too late after 17 months. So just relax yourself and move ahead in life happily.
