Question: I am taking Celebrex because of a recent surgery on my knee. Is it alright to continue taking losartan for high blood pressure and Ritalin? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Need more information.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

I have read your query and understand the concern regarding post-operative medications.

But before giving my opinion, please let me know-

What is your blood pressure reading recently especially after surgery?
Since when you are taking pressure medication?
What is the dose of Losartan you were taking?

Kindly get back to me with these answers.

My blood pressure this morning is 166/82. I haven't taken the Losartan since Thursday.
I'm not sure how to answer this - if you mean when did I start to take it - about 6. Years ago. If you mean, when do I take it - in the AM
100 MG.
I stopped taking Celebrex last night. The dosage is 200 mg.
I wasn't able to sleep last night, and felt my heart beating all night. My heartbeat is 74. I'm not sure if this is because of the combination of Celebrex and Losartan or Celebrex and Ritilan - I'm not taking the 10 mg of Ritilan now.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Resume losartan.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for sharing more information.

166/82 blood pressure is high and you should resume your regular anti-hypertensive medication losartan 100 mg to control blood pressure.

Since you have already stopped celebrex, there is no issue to take losartan now.

Your 74 heartbeat is normal but the feeling heartbeats (palpitations) could be due to rise in blood pressure which needs to be controlled.

For Ritalin, I would suggest you to see your treating physician who may guide you (whether to start it or not) after complete physical check up.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip
