Is Ceftum The Right Medicine For Chlamydia Infection?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 May 2016
Question: Hi doctor

I was diagnosed with Chlamydia recently and my doctor prescribed ceftum 500gm twice daily and start doxy twice daily after I complete the ceftum course. Will it be enough to cure the problem? Will it kill all the bacteria in the overall body, including the eyes and the throat if there is bacteria there. Meanwhile I'm taking my multi vitamins and anti oxidants and eating healthy everyday and drinking lots and lots of water. I have included neem supplement and vitamin C also along with that I'm eating raw garlic and turmeric in small quantities to get rid of any infection. Will my Chlamydia leave the body soon if I continue with my health regime and the medicines?
Patiently waiting for an answer, Thank you.

Brief Answer:
yes the antibiotic regimen is effective.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic, I share your concern and I will try to help you out in best possible way.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends doxycycline or azithromycin as first-choice antibiotic for the treatment of genital chlamydia. These medications are very effective for both acute and persistent infections. It can be easily treated and cured with antibiotics. Since you are taking ceftum a third generation cephalosporin, it is an equally potent antibiotic replacing azithromycin.
Yes these antibiotics will get rid of bacteria all over the body including eyes and throat.
these antibiotics will take atleast a week to make you chlamydia free. So don't fret over it and stay calm.
I hope this helps you
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

But do you think I should ask my gynecologist if I can start with doxy already? It's only been 2 days since I started my course of Ceftum, I'm still left with 3 more days before I start with Doxy. Should I start with doxy or wait for Ceftum course to get done?

Also, if there is any special diet suggestion that you can give, that'd be a huge help, although as mentioned before, I'm already taking all my supplements on time along with fresh fruits and vegetables diet. I also have low risk HPV which was diagnosed with Chlamydia. And I've done my research and the only way to fight HPV is to maintain a healthy diet and immune system. For which my doctor has already given me acivir 500gm once daily after dinner and other mineral supplements. I wish to get better real soon, can't keep dealing with these problems. It's too stressful dealing with both HPV and Chlamydia. If I can get rid of Chlamydia soon, I'll be able to pay attention to curing HPV.

Brief Answer:
yes both the antibiotics can be taken simultaneously.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, welcome back.
I appreciate your follow up..
In my opinion, you can actually start taking both antibiotics simultaneously, but do follow your gynaecologist's advice.
Coming to your diet you already are on good diet regimen and you can add more proteins to your diet as they are vital in synthesizing antibodies to fight against infections. Dont worry with completion of prescribed course of antibiotics you will get rid of chlamydia infection.
Hope this clarifies your doubts. Revert back to me if you have follow up queries.

Doctor, I'm really scared that it might spread to my eyes also. How long does it take to spread to the eyes? And is the eye infection curable with the same medicine or should I visit an opthalmologist as soon as possible? I'm really worried about this.
I've started my course today morning for doxy. Now just patiently waiting for all the symptoms and bacteria to leave the body.
Can this particular STD get very serious or out of control? I'm doing everything possible to get rid of it. Taking medicines on time and eating healthy. But I'm still freaking out every second.

Brief Answer:
eye infection is curable. Chlamydia is not a deadly STD.

Detailed Answer:
hi, welcome again.
The chances of infection spreading to eyes are very less in your case, because if there was such wide dissemination of infection, your condition would have been much worse, fortunately for you it is still under control and if my calculations are not wrong, its already under control. All you need to do is calm down and let the healing take its course, keep your mind clear of apprehensions.
In my clinical experience I have never seen a patient debilitated by chlamydia or HPV infection, I think this is sufficient for you to stop worrying.
