Question: I am a 66 year old male; I have been exercising every day for the past 100 days, with the intent of burning at least 350 more calories per day than I consume. I am 5' 8" tall and on February 21, I weighed 178.8 pounds. Today, I way 169.6 pounds. I eat a very balanced diet of protein, carbs, fruits and veggies. My concern is that my blood pressure is reading between 140/83 to 151/82. I take 2.5 mg of Amlodepine. Should I be concerned? What would you recommend?

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

It is a very good thing that you are trying to keep a healthy lifestyle, with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
A blood pressure of 140/80 and over is considered high.If your blood pressure stays over 130/80 most of the time ,your treating doctor should consider increasing the dose of Amlodipine that you are taking or add another antihypertensive drug to your treatment.
I would suggest to continue with your diet plan and exercise .Try to restrict the salt intake and drink plenty of water.

These numbers of blood pressure are not of much concern but it is important to keep blood pressure in optimal numbers to avoid long term complications.
I would suggest to monitor your blood pressure for 1-2 weeks and if the numbers are over 130/80 most of the time ,you need to consult your treating doctor and report to him to do the necessary modifications in your treatment.

Hope it helps.
Feel free to ask for every question you might have.

Kind regards,
