Question: I'm 5+ years cancer free following full thyroidectomy. My annual sonogram showed "level 3 lymph node which is heterogeneous in echotecture without discrete fatty hilum and with questionable small foci of cystic change." What exactly does that mean?

Brief Answer:
Not good

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone carefully through your query. Unfortunately the finding pertaining to the lymph node is not good. It indicates a lymphomatous conversion or metastatic change, neither of which are good. The latter is more terrifying and rather a more likely option. You need to see your treating doctor at the earliest.
