If Gums Bleed Is There Risk Of Hiv Transmission?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Apr 2024
Question: is there any medical intervention required I just had a non-sexual exposure in a club in Singapore where my only activities was 1. deep mouth to mouth kissing with saliva 2. exchange breast sucking and foreplay 3. I briefly touch the private area of the lady over her undergarment but did not do any penetration with the fingers. 4. no oral or vaginal sex 5. only your hand job. I believe there is no risk for HIV but I just wanted to check Q1. There seems to be one case where deep kissing with bleeding gums was involved. I dont gave that issue but not sure about the other party. Is it true that even with blood mixed with saliva it is not possible to transmit. I heard that one case was also debunked. 2. I briefly touch her vagina over her underwear. It was wet. Touching vaginal fluid does it pose risk is there a need for PEP or any other intervention Thank You and God Bless

Brief Answer:
If gums bleed then there is risk of hiv

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear
If gums have bleeding and that too in both partners then there is risk ,clearly not mixing of saliva can lead to infection but blood can. If it is possible to ask hiv positive history of other partner with confirmation on report then well and good. Otherwise on safe side 28 days prophylaxis for it in any HIV CENTRE is good choice.blood mixed with saliva have chance of spread in hiv. An open mouth kiss with bloody gums can transmit HIV and oral sex definitely. Vaginal fluid and breast milk contain HIV. Plus HIV testing and art of living class should be attended to prevent any psychological trauma also

Dear Dr XXXXXXX
Are you suggesting to take PEP for kissing and foreplay and handjob without any oral/ vaginal sex involved.

Brief Answer:
It’s good if you don’t know her status

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear
If you are absolutely sure about her hiv status then no need of prophylaxis. And also both of your mouth does not have any active bleeding then also no need of prophylaxis. As I mentioned above open mouth kiss with bloody gums have risk so prophylaxis is not bad choice if you are not sure about above mentioned things . Is she is sex worker ?Hope this helps . Please let me know for any other query

Dear Dr XXXXXXX
The lady is a hostess not a CSW in strict sense but would not rule out her engaging in sexual acts with clients. I dont know her status but i know that i dont have any open wounds or sores in my mouth nor bleeding gums. I presume she too does not have any wound in her mouth as i believe she would not allow deep kissing if there were any wounds or sores as it being painful. All i have read online is that kissing , foreplay and handjob are not risks and unless there has been unprotected oral/vaginal/anal intercourse or condom break PEP is not advised. None of these apply to my case
I live in a foeign country. Hope it clarifies further on my situation. Thank You

Brief Answer:
Yes ,if you are sure

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear
Yes if you are sure about your oral status then only saliva cannot transmit HIV but I still wants to keep you on safe side as minor even gum bleeds cannot be totally ignored . Yes definitely kissing does not require pep. If you are 100 % sure no blood contact anywhere then no prophylaxis is needed
Thanks
